Coffee flavored Figs and Dates Popsicle

Coffee flavored Figs and Dates Popsicle

I am so happy with myself. This is my creation and I am totally in love with it. I am not a big fan of regular coffee but I love cold coffee instead. I have been wanting to use cold coffee in some form in my recipe. This weekend while grocery shopping, we stumbled upon some fresh figs. I have never used or even had figs before so I decided to buy them just to challenge myself. Since today morning I have been thinking of a way to use these figs. Browsed many recipes for some ideas however I wanted to try something new.

Instant Jalebi

Instant Jalebi

Yippee!! This is my 100th POST on my blog and I am excited. I have to take this moment to thank my family and friends who have stood by me, supported me and encouraged me to do more. The common question I hear from anyone is, "So what did you cook today?" My family and close friends get to see the picture of my latest dish even before it gets on the blog or social media, thanks to Whats app. My MIL tells me that she loves to browse through the pictures I send on the family group. It really feels very overwhelming to get so much love from all. THANK YOU!

Gulab Jamun Pops

Gulab Jamun Pops

Gulab Jamuns have a deep connection with me. Not just they taste good, it brings back very fond memories of my childhood. My mom will make this dish on nearly every happy occasion. Me and my brother would eagerly wait for them to be ready so that we could gorge on them. My brother would not even wait for the gulab jamuns to be soaked well in the sugar syrup.. :)

Spiked Plums & StrawberriesJuice - The Ultimate Refresher Drink!

Spiked Plums & Strawberries Juice - The Ultimate Refresher Drink!

OK, do not judge me, This is the first time I ever tasted Plums! Yes, It is true. Since childhood I have not been naturally attracted to eating any fruits despite being coaxed, forced and threatened to eat it. Sigh, I pity my parents sometimes. How much they tried to feed me fruits with no success!

However today times have changed. Finally I have realized the importance of fruits and now I try and incorporate them in my daily intake in some form or the other. I am still little..OK..very picky about the fruits I eat, but still there is some progress that I made here. I somehow prefer to make fresh juice at home or enjoy an occasional fruity Popsicle. Thankfully they are yummy and turn out in bright colors which keeps me tempted. Check out these recipes here  Sunrise to Sunset drink , Rose flavored Blueberry Popsicle , Watermelon Margarita Slush , Watermelon Popsicle

Mug Cake - A Power Breakfast made with Whole Wheat & Bournvita

Mug Cake - A Power Breakfast made with Whole Wheat & Bournvita

Want an alternate breakfast idea? Bored of the regular cornflakes, omelette or a smoothie? Why don't you try having a mug cake instead! It is not just healthy because of the ingredients in it but also yummy for the tummy. :) Also it is very easy to make and takes just few minutes to be ready. It is surely a welcome change to the breakfast routine for us.
I cam across this recipe on one of the food pages I follow on Facebook. That lady had made it with coffee powder. I  wanted to tweak it a bit by adding a chocolate flavored drink powder instead thus reducing the quantity of sugar in the bargain. It worked! KR ( I fondly refer to my husband as KR) and me were pleasantly surprised with the outcome. This is surely going to stay in my weekly menu from now on. Try it to believe it! ;)

K3G - Kaju Katli Kulfi is Good!

Kaju Katli Kulfi

Though I am not a sweet tooth, my favorite mithai is Kaju Katli. It is very rich because it is made with cashews. Like my dad would say, "You can never like anything cheap. It has to be something expensive!" Yes, Kaju Katli is one of the most expensive sweets in the market and I love it for the taste. All my life's major happy moments are celebrated by getting this sweet from a local mart in Chembur. My dad started this tradition, hence it is very special to me. Today my in laws and husband along with my brother follow it as well. Feels nice. So when my brother was sending me some home stuff via courier, they even sent me this sweet from the very same store back home. I was thrilled to see it and immediately gorged on few pieces. However I know today that it is heavily packed with calories. Sad! Childhood was so much better when we didn't have to count the calories we put in!

Watermelon Popsicle

Watermelon Popsicle

It is summer time in Florida, so this is the best season for some chilled dishes. Since the time my friend sent me a Popsicle stand from India, I have been wanting to try some recipes using it. The first Popsicle I ever made using banana and yogurt . However neither me nor my husband really enjoyed the flavor. So I decided to try some other combination. I have read that we can mix in any fruit juice with yogurt, ice, milk and honey to get these colorful lip smacking Popsicle. Since I had watermelon available at home, I decided to make Red Popsicle! This totally took me back to my childhood days, when after school during summer me and my friends used to enjoy a pepsicola (The Indian name for a Popsicle). It was the most refreshing thing we had. It was sweet, tangy and colorful. I am definitely going to experiment with other fruits and share the result with all of you. Making them is the easiest thing to do. It can be made in a jiffy. Children can make it too. In fact I think this would be a hit among the younger generation. It is also the best way to have a fruit if you are a picky fruit eater like me. You can do wonders with very few ingredients.

Strawberry & Oats Ice cream

Strawberry & Oats Ice cream

Oats are turning out to be my favorite! I am still discovering different ways to use them in a  recipe. They can fit anywhere. Be it dosa batter, smoothies, paratha dough, cutlets or any gravy dish. Recently I experimented a sweet dish with them and I was impressed with the outcome. They blend in so easily. Though they don't really have any flavor (according to me), I know they are very very healthy. Glad that my husband who has a sweet tooth now can enjoy guilt free desserts if made with healthier options.
Sunday being a lazy day, we were chilling at home. He asked me if there was something sweet to eat after lunch today. That got me wondering. There were some Diamonds (My name given to Kaju Katri) in the fridge, which I didn't want him to gorge on. I also had some strawberries. I have made strawberry smoothie before using oats but he was not in mood to have a drink. So I thought of making it into a frozen dessert. This recipe needs all basic ingredients that can be easily found in your kitchen. Its like a quick fix if you have some sudden visitors or a mid morning snack or something healthy for a girls night out!
Due to the curd and milk used in the recipe, this contains protein and fiber from oats.

Cho Cho Chocolate Barfi

Chocolate Barfi
I have a 5 year old friend who is as naughty as a young boy can get. He is my friend's son and we all love him a lot. So when my friend invited us to come for his graduating ceremony, we couldn't refuse. He was graduating from Montessori to Kindergarten! The ceremony was very pleasant, it was so adorable to see tiny 5 year olds walking around in their red graduation capes. They even did the signature pose of throwing their hats in air. It was a magical evening. So I wanted to make his day even more special. Since all children love chocolates, I decided to make him something chocolaty! I had some left over milk powder at home and a packet of Ghirardelli cocoa powder. So I searched the net for some recipes with chocolate and milk powder. I stumbled upon this Chocolate Barfi and I decided to make it.

Semolina Mango Halwa

 Semolina Mango Halwa

A friend of mine is travelling to Alaska on a pleasure trip. I would love to go there sometime soon. Anyways this post is not about Alaska or my travel diaries, its about how I landed up making this halwa.
Actually before leaving she emptied her fridge & gave me a Mango to use. I left it on the kitchen rack to ripe for a few days. Today I thought it was ready to use. I searched for recipes online on what all I could possibly make with 1 mango. I am a sucker for the Indian Alphonso however we don't get the same ones here. So I was very keen to see how this one tastes as I have never tried them before. Anyways coming back to the sweet dish, I finally found a recipe online which suited me as I had all the required ingredients at home. I however tweed the recipe to suit our palate. Here is what I did..

Delightful Sin

Delightful Sin

This is a cool drink to be enjoyed with your gang of friends over to your place for a  game or a night out!
You can say that it is a twist to the regular cold coffee that we have.
