Mug Cake - A Power Breakfast made with Whole Wheat & Bournvita

Mug Cake - A Power Breakfast made with Whole Wheat & Bournvita

Want an alternate breakfast idea? Bored of the regular cornflakes, omelette or a smoothie? Why don't you try having a mug cake instead! It is not just healthy because of the ingredients in it but also yummy for the tummy. :) Also it is very easy to make and takes just few minutes to be ready. It is surely a welcome change to the breakfast routine for us.
I cam across this recipe on one of the food pages I follow on Facebook. That lady had made it with coffee powder. I  wanted to tweak it a bit by adding a chocolate flavored drink powder instead thus reducing the quantity of sugar in the bargain. It worked! KR ( I fondly refer to my husband as KR) and me were pleasantly surprised with the outcome. This is surely going to stay in my weekly menu from now on. Try it to believe it! ;)

Ingredients

4 tbsp of whole wheat flour
2 tbsp of granulated brown sugar
2 tbsp fat free milk
2 tbsp oil
1 egg
2 tbsp of bournvita
1/2 tsp vanilla essence
1/4 tsp baking powder or 2 pinches of baking soda
A pinch of white sugar for garnish

Method
In a bowl, mix wheat flour, bournvita and baking powder.

Take a big size mug ( the regular coffee mug), mix the sugar and egg. Add vanilla essence and oil. Mix it all till its smooth. Pour this onto the flour and mix it. Now add the milk and whisk it again. Pour this into the mug. Please make sure that the mug is not filled completely with it. It should only be filled 3/4.

Place the mug in the center of your microwave. Cook it on high for 90 seconds. It could vary for different microwaves, so keep checking. It will start to rise in few seconds. Once it has stopped rising and is little firm to touch, its done! You can sprinkle little white sugar on top to give it a heavenly touch!

Points to note

The given proportion makes for 1 mug. It could vary depending on the size of the cup you take.
Also since I made this with bournvita, I added less sugar. If using coffee powder then double the quantity of sugar.
You can also add any other chocolate flavored health drink powder or cocoa powder instead of bournvita.
Substitute for 1 egg is 3/4 cup milkmaid or 2 tbsp yogurt.
Consume the cake as soon as possible as it tends to get harder over time.

The aroma in my kitchen was definitely worth it. A quick no bake recipe which kids can gorge upon and you can enjoy it guilt free as it is healthy. we both surely did enjoy our power breakfast which had its share of protein in it too.
