Kurmura Chiwda

Kurmura Chiwda

A very quick and easy snack to make for those lazy afternoons where you are tempted to hog on to all those unhealthy fried snacks. Try this instead. This snack takes me back to my childhood where during diwali, every second house was filled with the aroma of this snack in the making. I used to keep checking with my mom on when this chiwda would be ready from me to eat. Now I make this with just a little variation, I don't add peanuts, curry leaves. dried coconut or raisins. You may add if you wish to.

Mutter Palak paratha

Mutter Palak paratha

I love eating parathas at a restaurant or when my mother makes me one, however just the thought of making it on my own daunts me. Post marriage, I always kept the idea of making parathas at a two arm distance even though my hubby is a foodie and would eat anything I cook. I deprived him of  these yummy little thing called parathas. Well, before the bollywood in me overcomes my personality and I get more melodramatic, let me stop here ;)
Coming back to parathas, well I just felt that I needed a paratha recipe on my blog and I might as well make my husband happier by making it for him. So as always in my obsessive need to keep most of our weekday meals healthy, I decided to make these parathas diet friendly. Now I must say that I am totally hooked on to making parathas and I plan to try out different varieties soon. Anyways, here is my recipe of Mutter palak paratha. Happy cooking!

Healthy spinach & oats ka chila

Healthy spinach & oats ka chila

Since yesterday I was contemplating what I should make for breakfast. The only criteria I had in mind was that it should be healthy. Of all the options I had, besan chila stood out for me this time. I wanted to make it. But how do I make the traditional besan chila more healthy? I came up with this recipe. A little bit of mix and match..and voila!! :)

Brown Rice Mushroom Pulav & Egg Curry

Brown Rice Mushroom Pulav & Egg Curry

My hubby loves egg curry and has always asked me to make it for him, however I was not very confident that I could pull it off. I kept postponing this, much to the dismay of my husband. I knew he secretly hoped that I would surprise him one fine day. Well today was that one fine day! :)
While browsing through the internet for healthier vegetarian meal options which is high in protein as well, I stumbled upon mushroom biryani. My mind started working overtime on how to turn this recipe into a healthy one. I decided to use brown rice instead of white, I added more veggies and cooked it in just 1 tbsp of oil. Now I wanted to make some accompaniment to go with this and that is when it hit me - Egg curry! It was like now or never, I had to make it today. Specially when one is trying to loose weight, eat healthy, you really want to eat something tasty as well to keep you motivated. I immediately called up my friend in India and asked her to share their family recipe for making egg curry. I tweaked it a little depending on the spices available with me.

Soyflakes French Toast

Soyflakes French Toast

"What should I cook for Breakfast?" This is a daunting question I am sure many of us face in the mornings. I am no different. After all how many times can one eat eggs, cornflakes, poha & the upmas in a week! So today morning I was in mood to make something new. My husband wanted to eat something healthy & light. Still in bed, as I kept pondering over what to make , a brainwave hit me. I had cornflakes, milk, egg whites & brown bread so I decided to make Soyflakes french toast..wahh!
